Behavioral therapy — a transcultural treatment approach
I embrace behavioral principles in my therapy practice given its transcultural nature. For instance, the reinforcement theory of motivation, which drives the development and maintenance of disorders such as depression and anxiety, is a transcultural psychological theory that underlies behaviors across all human cultures and ethnicities.
I flexibly integrate behavioral principles with various evidence-based treatment approaches to meet my clients’ mental health needs.
I practice cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with an emphasis on applying behavioral principles to elicit positive changes in my clients.
CBT is one of the most extensively researched psychosocial treatments that demonstrates efficacy in treating numerous mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, and OCD. CBT is a problem-specific, goal-oriented approach that works on the principle that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors all interact with each other. These moment-to-moment interactions largely shape our life experience, including psychopathologies.
Behavioral activation (BA) is a stand-alone, evidence-based treatment for depression that helps identify meaningful life values to encourage patients to participate in concrete and achievable value-driven activities. BA components can be applied to facilitate positive behavioral changes in the treatment of various disorders.
